You can have a say in fireworks competition
Vancouver, BC | Linda Nguyen, Vancouver Sun
VANCOUVER| I Crowds at this year's HSBC Celebration of Light on English Bay will be able to help determine the winner by text messaging their votes on their cell phones. The four-day international competition takes centre stage at the end of July and will showcase the best fireworks shows from Canada. Spain and China it is traditionally judged by a six-per son-panel. "The public can be judge No.7 this year by texting," Alicia Maluta, a representative of the competition, said Monday. Maluta said that like last year there will be adult and children's music stages on Beach Avenue near Broughton Street for three hours each night before the fireworks show. The stages will also be used to simultaneously broadcast music played during the light display. A limited number of canvasses and prints depicting the fireworks are also currently on sale online. These collector's items are created by artist Michael Downs. Fans of the fireworks celebration can continue supporting the show by purchasing $10 or $25 gift cards that are packed with $350 of savings in a number of Vancouver merchants. Half of the proceeds from the sales goes towards the fireworks show. Last year's Celebration of Light attracted an estimated 500,000 spectators to Vancouver's West End and Kitsilano Beach. |
